What happens after we die? Does our existence simply cease? Do we have a soul that goes to a good place? Or a bad place? Or a ... medium place? Is it possible we'll see our loved ones again? Or be reunited with our pets? Will we visibly see God? Will he look like Morgan Freeman?

We have a lot of questions about the "afterlife," and we tend to get our answers from lots of sources: popular movies, classic books, tales of near-death experiences, folk theology passed down to us by our grandparents, and occasionally even a religious text like the Bible.

But what do Jesus’ teachings suggest he believed about what comes next? How did his Jewish contemporaries think about it? And — when you peel away all of the misconceptions and pop theology — how have Christians across history thought about important matters like heaven, hell, purgatory, and the eternal fate of everyone who ever lived?

Those are the questions we'll be taking up in "Life After Death," a new sermon series from Verve City Church. Starting October 11, 2026. Because what we believe about the life to come has implications for the life we're living.
